What If to Even If

My what ifs seem to never be on the positive side of things. They are always what if something bad happens, what if my relationships turn out to be the same as past relationships, and the most fearful one of them all for me: what if God says “No, not right now.” There is the occasional positive ‘what if’, but then it somehow makes a U-Turn to negative.

It’s exhausting.

You have your people that love you try and encourage you to always think positive. Think the positive what ifs. In one of my recent posts, I was telling you how easily I let the enemy take control of my thoughts. How easily I let him steal my joy. Now, I don’t mean to sound redundant, but this is me. My struggle. Does anyone else struggle with over thinking and letting your negative what ifs overtake you?

It is a never ending process for me to constantly take my struggles to God and let God be God. Trust Him to control my life, no matter the what ifs. Negative or positive. There is this song that I have on repeat lately. It’s called Even If by MercyMe. One part that gets me every time is:

I know You’re able and I know You can
Save through the fire with Your mighty hand
But even if You don’t
My hope is You alone

I know the sorrow, and I know the hurt
Would all go away if You’d just say the word
But even if You don’t
My hope is You alone

So for me, instead of thinking the negative what ifs. No matter what happens, negative or positive, I will be singing “…even if You don’t my hope is You alone” because He is constant, He is faithful and always will be. The more I am into His word, the less room the enemy has in my life. No matter how big or small my circumstances, my God is bigger.

So, I encourage anyone who has this same struggle of negative what ifs to yes, try to turn your focus to the positive what ifs, but most importantly and LIFE and SOUL saving, abide in Him. Fill your life with His word. Daily. And no matter what, trust in Him. Praise Him even when it hurts and He doesn’t give you the answer that you want. He knows best. He always knows best even when it doesn’t make sense. Keep pressing into Him.
